Para quem não conhece, o Amon Amarth é um dos principais representantes do novo metal sueco, ou "death metal melódico", apresentando músicas com estrutura de heavy metal tradicional e vocais irados, típicos do death metal. A banda apresenta como diferenciais, além da qualidade absurda dos músicos, a temática "viking" nas letras, o que acaba sendo um aspecto polêmico, principalmente pelas capas dos últimos dois discos, que beiram o ridículo.
